Victor Moses Joins Liverpool On Loan

Liverpool have agreed a £1million fee with Chelsea to take attacker Victor Moses on-loan for the remainder of the 2013/14 season, according to the Guardian tonight (Saturday).





The Nigerian international has reportedly already undergone his medical on Merseyside and will be in the crowd at Anfield for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester Utd.

The Guardian‘s Dominic Fifield writes:

There is no option for Liverpool to make the deal permanent next summer, an indication that Moses could yet have a long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Moses was bought by the West London club from Wigan Athletic for around £9million in the summer of 2012 when Roberto Di Matteo was still Chelsea boss. However, Moses has made just 23 appearances, scoring once for the Blues since.

Now with Jose Mourinho as boss and a transfer spending flurry over the summer, Moses has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Rodgers will be delighted to bring Moses’ attacking prowess to his squad, with a strong offensive front now including the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Iago Aspas.

Liverpool are also hoping to complete deals for defenders Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori this weekend, as well as pursuing their interest for Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given before the summer transfer window closes on Monday night.

ASUP THREATENS TO RESUME STRIKE

Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has threatened to resume a strike action it suspended July 17 due to what it called government's use of "divide and rule" tactics in running tertiary institutions in the country.

ASUP President Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha in a press statement said the union's suspension of its strike was predicated on the understanding that government was to meet certain obligations which it has refused to fulfil till now.

While stressing that the union had "generously" granted government one month, as against the two weeks it demanded, he said two weeks after the expiration of the deadline, the only obligation which government has met in part is the harmonization of the modalities for the migration of the lower cadres of staff, stressing that government has not been able to definitely indicate where the attendant arrears will come from.

Asomugha said other matters which are yet to be settled are completion of the appointment of governing councils in all polytechnics, release of the White Paper on the Visitation to Federal polytechnics, the review of the Federal Polytechnics Act, the commencement of the renegotiation of the FGN/ASUP Agreement due since July 2012, and a Needs Assessment of Nigeria's polytechnics and proper funding of polytechnics.

The union lamented the "unfortunate stance of government in adopting a divide and rule approach to repositioning higher education in the country. Lately, government's whole attention has been focused on the university sector to the total abandonment of the polytechnics and the colleges of education."

He disclosed that ASUP may be forced to resume its strike if government refuses to fulfil its obligations.

APC Governors Declare Support For PDP Faction

The rancour in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which came to a head on Saturday with the emergence of a parallel executive of a faction made up of a former vice-president, former governors and about seven serving governors, has been described by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) as “a necessary and inevitable result of repressive rule of the PDP”.

 The PGF, made up of governors under the banner of All Progressives Congress (APC), in a statement yesterday, declared their support for the action of the seven PDP governors and other leaders of the ruling party to create a faction.

The statement said: “Recent events, first with the orchestrated crisis in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), suspension and expulsion of PDP leaders, including serving governors, without fair hearing and complete demonstration of lack of tolerance and respect for different opinions, are signposts of crisis that should unavoidably result in the split of any organisation.
“The PGF commends the courage and resilience of the Abubakar Baraje-led PDP and, in particular, congratulates all the serving PDP governors for standing up to be counted among patriotic political leaders of Nigeria. It must no doubt be a conscious decision that must have been borne out of commitment to make all the sacrifices needed to rescue our dear nation from the current reign of terror and bad governance.

 “As serving governors too, we are ready to support, work with our colleagues in partnership and solidarity with the goal of facilitating accelerated human development by embracing policies and programmes to improve quality of life of all Nigerian citizens, eradicate poverty and create jobs in the country. We are under no illusion that our reality as a nation today calls for both intra and inter party networking.

“We are, therefore, ready to transform our relationship with all serving governors irrespective of our partisan differences, in order to move our dear country, Nigeria, forward.
“Nigeria has outlived all dictatorships in the past and will definitely outlive any present or latent, manifest or potential dictatorship.”
